My sister turned thirty! Man, where does the time go?! It seems as though were were playing with our Barbie dolls and running home from school to watch Pokémon not too long ago… I have been so fortunate to grow up with a sister who loves and spoils me, and so I wanted to spoil and treat her this weekend.
I had originally planned to throw her a birthday party at a restaurant with close friends, but that has been postponed for the time being, so we spent the weekend celebrating Tanya at home. I wanted to brighten up the weekend since we she wouldn’t have a big blowout, so I surprised her with a balloon from Balloonbabe‘s Margherita Collection, which is friggin adorable!!! She was really surprised and happy with it. Mission accomplished.
We spent Saturday night enjoying a mediterranean inspired spuntino; cheese, bread, crackers, olives, sliced eggplants, cold-cuts, and cured sausage, and of course some homemade wine. I bought pretzels from Bretzel & Compagnie; Tanya chose dark chocolate and sea salt, maple bacon, and cinnamon sugar, which were delicious! We ate our dessert on the balcony by the fire pit since it was quite chilly, and sipped some meloncello (melon liqueur) from our trip to Positano last summer.
She turned thirty on Sunday, June 14, and the doorbell rang a few times during the day as family and neighbours spoiled her with flowers; we actually ran out of vases! It was all really sweet and thoughtful and made her really happy.
We had ravioli with fresh tomato sauce for lunch and then had birthday cake made by Tastebuds by Erica. I requested a mediterranean inspired cake since Tanya loves vacationing in Italy, and had planned to go on a mediterranean cruise with her best friend Jess in July but, you guessed it, COVID happened.
The cake was beautifully decorated with fondant tiles inspired by the Amalfi Coast, and edible lemons made of sugar. The interior of the cake was three tiers of double chocolate with Nutella buttercream goodness. We devoured it! I’m serious, there are no left overs! If you’re looking for baked treats for your next event, I highly recommend Tastebuds by Erica, she also bakes cookies, cupcakes, cake pops, and donuts! She offers gluten free and lactose free options as well.
Our family came over for some cake and coffee (in shifts) and we spent the whole day outdoors enjoying the weather and celebrating Tanya. We’re so lucky that lockdown restrictions eased, and we were all able to celebrate together, because that is what really mattered in the end.
So Tanya, happy birthday again! I love you!!!
xoxo
